Emergency Observations #1

(This and the rest that will follow were written while I was at the emergency room last night.)

I've surprised nearly every employee of the hospital by being nice, polite, and non-confrontational. I complimented the woman who registered me as a patient by complimenting her blouse (a pretty sage green with flowers and a bird), and one of the nurses by mentioning her striking necklace. I've learned that another of the nurses is writing a novel with a friend of hers--they have the storyline finished, but think it needs to be more dramatic. I've said"please" and "thank you" and on the whole they don't know what to think of me.

Who said mental patients have no manners?
